Disciplines: Education and Philosophy

Allen Hance is the Director of Engaged Scholarship at the Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown, where he works with students, faculty, and community partners to develop pathways for community-engaged learning and research. Hance directs the TRI-Lab program and is an Adjunct Lecturer in International and Public Affairs. Prior to coming to Brown, Allen was the executive director of the Chesapeake Bay Trust, a public foundation in Annapolis, MD, and served as co-chair of the Chesapeake Bay Funders Network, a regional funding collaborative of 25 public and private foundations. He received a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Boston College and an M.S. in Environmental Policy from the University of Michigan.
