Disciplines: Anthropology and International Affairs
Catherine Lutz is Chair of Brown University's Anthropology Department and is jointly appointed in the school's Watson Institute for International Studies. She is the author of numerous books on the US military and its impact beyond the battlefield, the car and its place in US culture, and other topics in cultural anthropology. Dr. Lutz is Co-Director of the Costs of War, a multidisciplinary initiative to analyze the human, economic, social and political costs of the recent wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. She also co-founded the Network of Concerned Anthropologists and previously served as president of the American Ethnological Society.
