David H. Brendel, M.D., Ph.D. is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist who practices in the Boston area. He maintains a private practice in Belmont, Massachusetts and serves as Medical Director of Psychiatric Services at Walden Behavioral Care in Waltham, Massachusetts. He received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School and his Ph.D. in philosophy from University of Chicago. Dr. Brendel's academic work focuses on psychiatric ethics and the complex relationship between scientific and humanistic approaches in psychiatry. His book, Healing Psychiatry: Bridging the Science/Humanism Divide, was published by MIT Press in 2006. He has also published and spoken extensively on the ethics of using online technologies in the clinical practice of medicine and psychiatry. In 2011, Dr. Brendel received an award from the Academy at Harvard Medical School for excellence in teaching in the Medical Ethics and Professionalism course.
